The Wildernest subdivision is a long, thin parcel of ground containing 292 acres at the foot of Buffalo Mountain. \n\nThe land came into private ownership during the placer mining days when mining operators received title to numerous mining claims that made up what is now Wildernest.\n\nWhen mining the area was no longer profitable, the property sat untouched until the 1960's when Breckenridge Ski Area triggered residential development throughout Summit County.\n\nThe first major building constructed in Wildernest was Silverheels, built in 1970. Its purpose was to set the architectural tone for the subdivision, as well as provide a mountain training center for executives. Today Wildernest is the largest residential subdivision in Summit County not connected to a ski area.\n\nWildernest Real Estate Company was originally formed under the name of Home Owners Service Company. In 1980 it was incorporated as a wholly owned corporation and the name was changed to Wildernest Real Estate.
