Back in the 1940's, Sam Gordon was a milkman in Brooklyn, delivering dairy products for Grand View Dairy Company. A well-liked and respected member of the community, Sam could always be counted on to help his neighbors. Using his resources, his truck and his two sons, Sam began moving furniture for friends and neighbors. Recognizing the need for this kind of service, Sam started Big G Trucking (which has subsequently gone through several name changes). With the growth of the suburbs, Big G began moving residential customers out of, and around the city. And a full-service household moving company was born. The fleet grew and, by the mid-50's, Big G began delivering furniture for department stores like Macy's, Gimbel's and Bloomingdale's. In 1986, the A-1 First Class brand originated, and the company has been known by this name ever since.
