Call or email with questions, let us be your guide. McCarthy Transfer & Storage was established by Leo B. McCarthy in February 1919. Prior to this Leo was strictly in the horse and wagon freight business from the railhead in La Mesa, Ca. Upon the founding of McCarthy Transfer in 1919 Leo saw the need to specialize in household goods. Leo ran and grew the business until his retirement in 1958 when his son Tom H. McCarthy took over the business. Tom moved the company to the industrial area of La Mesa, Ca on Commercial St. During Tom's ownership he devoted many hours of time and equipment to his church and local Veterans' organizations in the area. In 1978 Tom's son, Tim, took over the company. Under his leadership McCarthy Transfer and Storage has grown from doing only local moves, to Local, Interstate, Military, Office & International Moves. Tim also moved the company to a larger, 21,000 square foot warehouse in El Cajon, Ca.
