In 1980 Jack and Beth Kloke, along with two sons, started a trucking business in the Washington, D.C. market by delivering new furniture for a number of retailers, large and small. After both sons graduated from college, the family phased out of the furniture delivery business and purchased in 1984 the assets of a small moving and storage company in Richmond, Virginia. Today, the company operates two Mayflower Transit and two United Van Line agencies that are engaged not only in local, interstate, and international household goods moving, but also in office and industrial moving as well as warehousing and distribution activities. Additionally, it is a significant military mover, servicing Washington, D.C. military bases from its Fredericksburg and Manassas facilities and servicing Tidewater and Central Virginia military bases such as Norfolk Naval Base, Langley Air Force Base, and Fort Lee Army Base from its Newport News and Richmond facilities.
