Ashmont Cleaners provides dry cleaning services to the West Roxbury, MA area. Here sits the oldest continuously running dry cleaner in West Roxbury. In 1922 Dun-Rite Cleaners opened here and ran through 1952 when Mr. Homsey bought it from Mr. Dunrite and named it Parisian Cleaners. Due to failing health, he sold it in 1961 to Samuel Miller, a Jewish Holocaust survivor and tailor who moved his tailoring business here from Ashmont Station in Dorchester. He renamed it Ashmont Tailors and Cleaners. In 1979 George and Helen Kouris, immigrants from Greece bought it from Mr. Miller. Mrs. Kouris, who still works here was a trade school trained seamstress who custom designed and manufactured clothing for private clients during the 1960s and 1970s after having worked for the prestigious Baron-Peters of Boston. In 1989, their son Andrew Kouris, graduate of Boston Latin School and Brandeis University and daughter-in-law Effie, took over the business and carry it on to this day. Andrew was trained by the International Fabricare Institute before taking over.
